Honor Flights at Reagan National Airport
Yesterday, my husband and I had the privilege to greet two Honor Flights at Reagan National Airport. The Honor Flight Network transports US WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans to Washington, DC to vist their memorial. Soldiers and volunteers greeted the veterans with cheers and handshakes as they came off the plane. What a pleasure it was to see their smiles, humor, and sometimes tears of appreciation.
From what I was told, the flights will be suspended for the winter months, but will begin again in the spring. If you have the opportunity to be a part of an Honor Flight, do it.
I wish my father could have participated in a flight before his death, because, as much as he discounted his contribution, he and all the WWII vets engaged in a momentous historical event worthy of our appreciation.
