LUCY S. (ROBBINS) ESTES (Biographical data abstracted from New Bedford, Massachusetts town records, associated census records and a family history entitled "Estes Genealogies" compiled by Charles Estes and published by Eben Putnam, Salem, Massachusetts, 1894) Re: The Nicholas Robbins Family, No. 7.3.1

Lucy S. Robbins, daughter of Elisha K. Robbins and Hepzibah Maxfield, was born in April, 1830 at New Bedford, Massachusetts, the first of nine children of this couple. Her father was a shipwright by trade. On May 8, 1855 Lucy married George W. Estes of New Bedford. George was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island on August 6, 1816, the son of Joseph Estes and Hannah Hicks. Over the years, New Bedford town records listed George variously as a trader and salesman and, at the time of his death, as a storekeeper. George died at New Bedford on January 16, 1892, at age 76 years, 4 months. Lucy followed on August 16, 1902 at age 72 years, 4 months.

The children recorded to this couple, all born in New Bedford, were:

1.  Katie E. Estes, who was born on October 23, 1856 and died young on February 12, 1862 at New Bedford;

2.  Harriett M. Estes, shown in some records as "Hattie", who was born on January 19, 1858. She married James N. Parker, age 51, at New Bedford on July 11, 1892. At the time of their marriage, Hattie was noted as a photograph retoucher and James as a salesman. James was born in Falmouth, Massachusetts, the son of John H. Parker and Susan N. Nye. First marriage for Hattie and second for James;

3.  Joseph C. Estes, who was born on January 14, 1860 and died young on February 19, 1862 at New Bedford; and

4.  Flora E. Estes, who was born September 12, 1863. She married Carlton S. Blanchard, age 33, at New Bedford on December 23, 1895. Carlton was noted as an iron foundry manager at the time of their marriage. His parents were John W. Blanchard and Harriet Chambers and he was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. First marriage for Flora and second for Carlton.
